Amherst MuseumAmherst Museum is an educational institution whose mission is to engage a diverse audience in the exploration of history and its influence on present-day life in the Niagara Frontier, with emphasis on the Town of Amherst. Visitors can experience 19th-century life and tour historic homes, churches and one-room schoolhouses on the 35-acre grounds with exhibits on local history, textiles, art and the Erie Canal. Buffalo and Erie County Historical SocietyThe Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, founded in 1862, is located in the Delaware Park area of Buffalo, NY. Collections highlights include Pan-American Exposition artifacts, the Red Jacket Peace Medal, the Pierce Motorette (an early motor vehicle), and prototype pacemakers, among the 80,000-plus items in our care. Sketches and paintings chronicle two centuries of growth of the city of Buffalo and surrounding land, and portraiture ranges from Peter Porter, one time Secretary of War, to Presidents Grover Cleveland, and Millard Fillmore. The Research Library and Archives collections document the history of the City of Buffalo and the surrounding region. Subjects of special interest include Native Americans in Western New York, settlement of Western New York, the War of 1812, and local regiments in the Civil War, the Erie Canal, Niagara Falls, the Pan-American Exposition, and local businesses. Buffalo Museum of ScienceThe Buffalo Museum of Science, through collections, research, education and interpretation, provides opportunities for all people to develop a scientific understanding of the natural and cultural world with an emphasis on the Greater Niagara Region. The Museum challenges everyone to use their knowledge of science to enhance respect for each other and the environment. The Museum's Research Library holdings reflect the areas of the Museum's research including: anthropology, archaeology, astronomy, botany, geology, invertebrate zoology, museology, mycology, paleontology, and vertebrate zoology. The Museum receives over 400 journal titles each year and the collection covers the topics listed above, as well as science education, other museums' publications, and local and affiliated scientific society publications. Center for Inquiry LibrariesThe Center for Inquiry is an umbrella organization that provides services for the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI) and the Council for Secular Humanism. The purpose of the Center for Inquiry is to contribute to the public understanding and appreciation of science and reason, and their applications to human conduct. Through education and advocacy, the Center for Inquiry continues to be a world-wide organization that teaches the use of critical thinking to all areas of human endeavor. The Libraries have world-class collections in the areas of philosophy, skepticism, freethought, humanism, the paranormal, and the occult, in addition to periodical and journal collections, an archive, and many other resources. Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library SystemThe mission of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System is to foster, strengthen, and improve public library services within its two-county service area. The Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System is a cooperative Public Library System serving 36 member libraries in a two-county area of 2,415 square miles. It is a rural area; most of its 223,705 people live in scattered hamlets and small villages. The member libraries serve populations ranging up to 31,730, but the majority serve populations of less than 4,000. All chartered public libraries in the System's service area are members of the System. Collections: 
Lewiston Public LibraryThe Lewiston Public Library began in 1901 when the Men's Club of Lewiston held a New Year's Party and asked each person in attendance to bring two books. Vice President Theodore Roosevelt, invited but unable to attend, sent an autographed copy of his book on Oliver Cromwell. This book is still on display in the Local History Room. When the new Library was dedicated in 1991, former U.S. Presidents Ford, Carter, Nixon, and Reagan sent autographed copies of their books to add to this collection. Chartered as a Free Library in 1902, support was maintained by public subscription with members of the Lewiston Service Guild collecting door-to-door for operating funds. As Library use increased, the Trustees recognized that a dedicated source of funding was needed to maintain standards and allow for continued growth. In 1976 this funding was secured with the approval of a Public Library Charter and the Library is now supported by tax dollars. The Library has been located in many different buildings in the community. It was first housed in the present Quote and Quill, then moved to the Hotchkiss General Store, now DiCamillo Bakery, and in 1961 moved to the Hotchkiss building, commonly known as the Long House. In 1990 the Library moved to the present site at 305 South Eighth Street. In 1999 a new children's wing was added. Lewiston Public Library, 305 South 8th St., Lewiston, NY 14092 Collections:  Lockport Public LibraryThe Lockport Public Library was chartered in 1893 to serve residents of the Lockport City School District, now numbering approximately 38,000 people. The Library also serves residents in the towns of Lockport and Pendleton. The mission of the Lockport Public Library is to strengthen and connect our community by providing resources that enrich, educate, and entertain in a welcoming environment. The first priority of library administration and staff is to serve the community. The library has the second highest circulation and the highest patron registration of member libraries in the Nioga Library System. The library loans materials in a variety of formats; sponsors programs for children, young adults, adults and families; provides space for community meetings; and offers public access workstations, wireless access, and online 24/7 reference service. The library's Local History collection includes information about the history of Lockport and its industries, schools, famous persons, events, and buildings, as well as the history of Niagara County and the Erie Canal. As a member of the Nioga Library System, the library provides patrons with interlibrary loan service between member public libraries in Niagara, Orleans, and Genesee Counties. Nioga Library SystemThe Nioga Library System is a non-profit cooperative library system serving the public libraries in three counties. The library system takes its name from the counties that it serves - Niagara, Orleans and Genesee. The system, which consists of 21 public libraries, is one of 23 similar systems in New York State. It receives most of its financial support through the New York State Department of Education. The Nioga Library System, which was chartered in 1958, helps to provide improved informational services to all residents of its three county area.
